UIPI Congratulates Dan Jørgensen on his confirmation hearing as EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing

PRESS RELEASE

Brussels, Belgium

The International Union of Property Owners (UIPI), representing 31 associations across 28 countries in Europe, congratulates Mr. Dan Jørgensen on his confirmation hearing as EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing. UIPI welcomes the growing recognition of housing as an important topic at the EU level, alongside energy, and looks forward to contributing to both policy areas.

As the voice of over 5 million owner-occupiers, co-owners, and private landlords, UIPI stands at the forefront of housing policies across Europe. Our members include those who have fulfilled their goal of homeownership and those providing housing for a significant share of EU renters. We believe this new mandate is an opportunity to better streamline policies that impact housing while respecting the national and local competences that govern the sector.

Dr. H. Warnecke, incoming President of UIPI stated:

“We are ready to work with Commissioner Jørgensen to improve access to affordable rental housing and homeownership. Over 70% of Europeans live in homes they or their parents own, with even higher rates in Eastern and Southern Europe. Nearly 20% of the population relies on the private rental sector, making our input vital to housing discussions.”

UIPI remains committed to supporting EU efforts to foster practical, inclusive solutions for housing, including through its collaboration to the development of the European Affordable Housing Plan and with the European Commission Task Force on Housing.

About UIPI

The International Union of Property Owners (UIPI), the largest pan-European non-profit association of both home owners and private landlords. UIPI comprises 31 organisations from 28 countries, which, jointly, represent more than 5 million private property owners and around 25 million dwellings all over Europe.

The interests of the sector we represent correspond to the concerns and needs of a substantial part of the European population. As shown by Eurostat, almost 70% of EU citizens are owner-occupiers, whereas almost another 20% of the population is housed in the private rented sector.
