UIPI Property Day arrives in Warsaw

On 20 October 2017, UIPI celebrated this year’s International Property Day in Warsaw, Poland. Hosted by the Polish Union of Property Owners (Polska Unia Właścicieli Nieruchomości—PUWN), the event celebration brought together representatives of property owners’ associations from all over Europe.

The purpose of this year’s event was to highlight the importance of the constitutional guarantee of this right in contemporary Europe, notably in light of a potential revision of the Polish Constitution, and the occasion to reflect on how this right is exercised in line with the principle of equality in modern times.

The keynote speeches were held by Dr. Marcin Święcicki, a Member of the Polish Parliament and Former Minister as well as Former Mayor of Warsaw, and Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Grandjean, Lecturer at the University of Liège in Belgium, who focused on equality in property rights in current times, giving interesting examples including expropriation of vacant buildings, Airbnb and conveyance of estate.
