Dutch UIPI member Vereniging Eigen Huis welcomed fellow UIPI members on 31 May, in Amsterdam for the International Property Day. The event brought together a panel of experts and leaders in climate change adaptation with a particular emphasis on the Netherlands’ vulnerability to flooding.
In the morning, stakeholders with different backgrounds discussed the urgent need to adapt existing buildings to face the effects of climate change and highlighted how investing in sustainable improvement not only strengthens the resilience of properties to natural disasters, but can also increase their long-term value.
The afternoon session emphasised the importance of collaboration and the adoption of innovative solutions to address climate challenges during a visit to Schoonschip, an innovative sustainable floating neighbourhood in the canals of Amsterdam. Jeron Apers, architect and resident, highlighted how the community came together to build this exemplary project, which incorporates advanced technologies such as solar panels, heat pumps, water recycling systems, among others.
