On 4-5 October 2017, international experts met in at the Chamber of Property Owners in Barcelona to discuss energy efficiency financing through green mortgage, financing schemes and reduction of investment gap thanks to building extension and addition. This event was also the occasion to test the support tools developed within the ABRACADABRA project on real case studies.
A field visit at “La Casa por el Tejado” (The House on the Roof) completed the workshop. This architect’s office specialised in developing rooftop additions in historical centres of cities like Barcelona, Madrid or Paris shared their experience. Their strategy is to make use of unused roof to add extra volume through prefabricated lightweight construction easy to install on top of a building. Additionally, the rooftop solution limits the noise disruption of the occupiers through an extra space left between the last roof and the extension. Years of experience taught them that time is needed to convince co-owners and deal with urban and building requirements’ hurdles. But practice helps and paper work becomes more of a routine.
